Alabama All-Star Game

1955

The Northern All-Stars, headed by J. Furman Elmore, Athens, assisted by red Knight, Cordova; Bill Harris, Sylacauga; Brooks Jones, Sulligent; Clem Gryska, Huntsville, marched to victory -- their first since 1949 -- by a 26-7 score.

Chuck Jackson, a 5'9", 173 lb fullback from Deshler, amassed 146 yards rushing -- better than two-thirds of the North's total on the ground. Carl BoIton from Athens completed seven passes of nine for 81 yards and two touchdowns: Toby Deese, Talladega; Kenneth Roberts, Anniston; Baxter Booth, Athens; and Lloyd Nix, Carbon Hill shared starring roles.

The Southern team was coached by Herb Chapman, Holtville; A. R. Holmes, Escambia County; C. A. "Jocko" Norton, Luverne; J. R. Porch, Verbena; and Theron Fisher, Montevallo. Offensively, quarterback Bobby Jackson, Murphy of Mobile, was in the driver's seat and was helped by Wilbur Supple, Hayneville; Danny Wilbanks, Tallassee; and Warren Fleming, Tuscaloosa. Ward Alexander of Evergreen stood out on defense, sharing in at least one-third of the Rebel tackles.
